Sandra Hansen Everything I do is experimental. My brain does not think like other people's. It is scattered and disorganized. Plans always get forgotten and inextricably impossible once I start to make something. I think I am making one thing, and when I am finished it is something else. When I try to stick to a plan, my art is boring, predictable, and lacks luster. When I turn on my music and turn off my brain, wonderful things happen. Lynda Hoffman-Snodgrass “Blueberry Cravings” is an intuitively experimental abstract watercolor. My process involves an initial application of paint that is freely applied to the paper with no plans as to the end result. Watercolor is an amazing medium to work with due to its fluidity. Areas where the watercolor paint application is thin, dries quickly, and where it puddles creates variations in color, value, and texture. Once dry, a second application of paint is again freely layered upon the first. Once the second layer is dry, I study the painting for some time in every orientation. The feeling of freedom and energy from those first two initial experimental applications of watercolor pigment never fail to delight me. Sometimes, I will add a third application, but in this case I did not. After carefully studying this work, I used my training as an artist to pull a finished painting out of what has been created. This is how “Blueberry Cravings” came to be. Watercolor 29" x 21" x .01" $1800
Margriet Hogue During Covid, I did a lot of walking and would find rusted bits of metal of various sorts and would bring these home. I was playing around with them and thought, "Why not incorporate some of these found items into my art?" In some cases, I would rust metal and add these as well. I'm quite happy with the results.
